Taking the Entrepreneurial Plunge: Pam and David’s Small Business Journey
After years of working the corporate grind, Pam and David, married for 25 years (now 38), decided it was time for a change. They asked themselves, “What if we started our small business?” They knew there would be ups and downs, but at least it would be their ride.
Why Chocolate?
During a visit to a small chocolate franchise, Pam and David were intrigued by the art and science of specialty truffle making. They took chocolate-making classes, and David’s imagination was brimming with ideas for new flavor profiles like key lime and sweet potato.
Chocolate Therapy Opens Its Doors in 2011
In 2011, Pam and David opened Chocolate Therapy. Owning a small business is no easy feat. “Every day’s a hustle,” Pam said. “How do we ensure growth to support our wonderful team?” It’s a constant cycle, but in the end, they appreciate a big difference–working for themselves and their customers.
After 13 years, Pam and David say it’s smoothing out – the lows aren’t as low, and the highs aren’t as high. For Pam, the relationships with their customers are meaningful – some even volunteer during the busy holiday season.
LEAF’s Support for Chocolate Therapy
Chocolate Therapy has received two funding rounds from LEAF (Local Enterprise Assistance Fund). The first round helped them meet the increased demand for their chocolates after being featured on Good Morning America. The recent funding helped support their move to a new retail location in Wayland, MA.
Pam and David were impressed with LEAF’s analysts, who quickly understood the intricacies of their business after just 15 minutes of reviewing their financials. LEAF has become a trustworthy partner, with this independent, family-owned business to help sustain them and benefit their communities.
