Green Mountain Graphics was founded in 1969 in New York City, designing and manufacturing signage for businesses and property owners. Its current owner, Eric Greenberg, took over ownership from his father in 1994.
Under Eric’s ownership the business grew significantly, and moved from its original workshop in Manhattan to its current location in Queens’ Sunnyside neighborhood. Green Mountain Graphics designs and produces building signage, as well as printed promotional materials. Its products range from building façade signage for small businesses, to more utilitarian office signage (e.g. nameplates, directories, stairwell signs), to safety signage for construction sites.
This conversion to a worker cooperative will create 8 employee-ownership opportunities with the potential for the growing business to add additional jobs over time. A majority of the worker-owners are Latinx, and several have worked for the business for many years. Converting to a worker co-op will give these employees the opportunity to build wealth by sharing in the profits their labor has helped generate over the years. It also ensures their employment will be preserved, which would not necessarily be the case with a traditional business sale.
