We get to learn more about the team, the Chief Lending Officer at LEAF, José Luis Rojas.
Q: What do you like best about LEAF?
José Luis: There are several things I like best about LEAF, including:

- The people. They are intelligent, entrepreneurial, and kind.
- We play a small but important role in supporting broad-based business ownership models in the US, particularly around employee ownership.
Q: How do you spend time here at LEAF?
José Luis: If I had to put them in categories, the ones I spend most of my time are:
- Providing guidance and feedback to the lending team, from origination to portfolio management.
- Nurturing partnerships with organizations that support the work of our clients.
- Contributing to internal strategic discussions of how to continue to make LEAF a better organization for our clients and our worker members.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Jose Luis and Colleague, Lisette, at the Barr Foundation event
José Luis: Some things I enjoy doing outside of work:
- Spending time with my family and friends.
- Building time for some exercise around my day-to-day activities.
- Traveling to explore new places and visit people.
José Luis: The impact of my travels:
- Crossing the US-Mexico border daily led me to question why people behave differently when crossing to the other side.
- Visiting Mongolia with the Soros Foundation provided an opportunity to see how communities reorganized when they face major governance challenges.
- Working with fair trade coffee co-ops in Latin America and Africa gave me insights into the benefits and challenges of cooperatives as a business structure.
