Big Duck is a boutique consulting shop that works exclusively with nonprofit clients, supporting them with branding, fundraising, and awareness-based campaigns. Originally founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1994 by Sarah Durham, the worker cooperative will have 13 initial worker-owners. The firm’s vision statement reads: “All nonprofits should have the ability to advance their missions by leveraging smart internal and external communications.”
Their goal is to equip nonprofits with smart communications strategies and tools that shape beliefs and inspire action. Big Duck has grown considerably over the past 27 years, and has worked with hundreds of nonprofit clients spanning sectors: arts and culture organizations, schools and universities, environmental and social justice groups, private foundations, and more.
The business acquisition by its employees was supported with technical assistance from the Industrial Cooperative Association (ICA Group), and financing from the previous business owner, Local Enterprise Assistance Fund (LEAF), Shared Capital Cooperative, and Fund for Jobs Worth Owning.
