In February, Oregon passed a historic bill that raised the statewide minimum wage to the highest in the nation, but also accounted for regional differences by instituting a three-region wage increase. By 2022, the minimum in Portland will rise to $14.75, in mid-sized counties to $13.50, and in rural areas to $12.50. LEAF’s special projects director, Jennifer Schuberth, and her family live in Portland and hope that their participation in hearings and rallies helped in this fight to raise wages for workers in Oregon. If this continues, the Schuberth family will have to find something else to do on Black Fridays other than stand outside Walmart with their signs!
