LEAF’s first loan to a purchasing coop went to the Independent Brewers Alliance. It is 100% owned by its craft brewery members, each with a voting share. The loan allowed for the creation of the alliance, which is now reaching the critical mass of members at which they can begin to reach economies of scale and compete with large corporate conglomerates (e.g. Anheuser-Busch). The risk associated with registering is low, as new members can leave within 12 months and receive a full refund. Their buying power is currently measured at 420,000 barrels.
Benefits fall under three main categories: reduced cost of goods and improved access, savings on time and operational expenses, and collaborating on shared industry challenges.
Thanks to dedicated leadership with expertise in both purchasing cooperatives and craft brewing, the IBA is destined for success!
