Prairie Roots will use the loan for the construction of their new, member-owned, 8,300 sq. ft. grocery in the twin municipalities of Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN. The consumer co-op is approaching 1500 members. The area is a food desert, a CDFI investment area, and will create 23 living-wage jobs in the area. This store will help provide food access to the underserved communities in Fargo, ND, a key impact metric that LEAF tracks for our food co-op borrowers.
We wish Prairie Roots best of luck opening their store—for any Fargo fans, perhaps the new store will make a cameo in an upcoming season! Stay tuned!
